Welcome to the Gates Millennium Scholars Virtual Summit. This experience is designed to re-connect and re-engage Scholars and Alumni, your stories, experiences and to provide opportunities to for personal and professional development. Through a series of virtual engagements, you will have opportunities to engage in conversations about economic empowerment, health & wellness, education, public health, and more.
Week Five
Join in on an important conversation about personal wellness and mental health. Amanda Mims, MPH, is currently the Director of Patient Services and the Deputy Director of Billing for Jackson Hinds Comprehensive Health Center in Jackson, MS. Amanda received her B.A. in Political Science from Tougaloo College in 2007 and her Master of Public Health with an emphasis in Health Policy and Administration from the University of Southern Mississippi in 2009. She belongs to the GMS cohort of 2003.
Week Four
This week, our conversation will spotlight entrepreneurship by 3 and is led by 3 alumni scholars:
Aroona Toor, Co-Founder and the Executive Director of the Muslim Women’s Professional Network (MWPN) and an incoming Doctor of Public Health (DrPH) student at the George Washington University, Milken Institute School of Public Health.
Dr. Sharon Washington, Renowned for engaging diverse audiences on the complex intersections of race, historical trauma, social inequality and justice, and the impact of these factors on health outcomes. Sharon is a Gates Millennium Scholar, class of 2003, and Past President of the Gates Millennium Scholars Alumni Association.
Cecilia Corral, Co-Founder and VP of Product at CareMessage. Driven by her experiences growing up in a low-income immigrant household, Cecilia takes a patient-centered approach to product development with a relentless focus on user research.

Week Three
This week, our conversation will be focused around the Covid-19 vaccine with NhuNgoc K. Pham, MPH, cohort 2010, and Miguel Angel Lopez MPH, RDN, LDN, cohort 2013. Both NhuNgoc and Miguel are doctoral students at Tulane University and have been working within their respective communities throughout the pandemic. This is a great listen for all who have struggled with vaccination information and hesitation. Also, Tanaya Winder, cohort 2004, was gracious enough to provide us her musical talents before and after the conversation.
Week Two
This week, we will be hearing from four Gates Alumni Scholars as they reflect on their Gates journey and what the scholarship has provided them.
